Hillary had an unthinkable choice to make—escape domestic violence but lose her cat, Purrnando, in the process, or stay in an abusive relationship where she and her children were in danger every day. Thanks to the Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) SafeCare program, she never had to make that decision.
APA was able to provide Purrnando with a safe home until Hillary and her kids could find a place to live and get back on their feet. Knowing that they would be reunited with their beloved pet helped get them through the hard days and start the healing process they all so desperately needed.
An $8,000 grant from the Banfield Foundation helps fund APA’s SafeCare program so victims of domestic abuse and their pets can stay together.
