In 1955, veterinarian Warren J. Wegert had a vision to provide high-quality veterinary medicine in Portland, Oregon. Since then, Banfield Pet Hospital has grown to more than 975 locations across the United States and Puerto Rico, with this understanding: The best relationships are formed when people work together.

Involved in Our Communities

We strive to use our resources, reach and relationships to improve the wellness of pets, communities, our associates and the veterinary profession. For example:

Through the Mars Volunteer Program, our associates volunteer for company-sponsored activities across the country, making the world a better place for pets…and a happier one as well.

Our Principles

Quality. Responsibility. Mutuality. Efficiency. Freedom. These Five Guiding Principles provide the shared vision for each Banfield Pet Hospital.

  • Quality

We are dedicated to the highest quality in all the work we do. This uncompromising standard guides all our actions. Quality work, from our personal efforts, is the source of our reputation for quality pet health care.

  • Responsibility

All our associates are empowered to take direct responsibility for results, exercise initiative and judgment, and make decisions. By recruiting people well suited to their roles – and trusting them – we hold associates accountable for their own high standards.

  • Mutuality

We measure our business relationships on the degree to which benefits are created. They take many different forms and need not be strictly financial. We strive to create mutually beneficial partnerships. Our actions should never be at the expense, economic or otherwise, of others with whom we work.

  • Efficiency

Our strength lies in our ability to organize all assets – physical, financial and human – for maximum productivity. Our products and services are made and delivered with the highest quality, at the least possible cost, with the lowest consumption of resources.

  • Freedom

Our family ownership by Mars Incorporated is a deliberate choice. Other companies have exchanged a portion of their freedom by selling stocks or incurring restrictive debt, in order to extend growth. We believe growth and prosperity can be achieved another way.
